ABOUT
THE
COMPANY
|
|
Gurtman
and Murtha opened its doors as a public relations
organization, representing many of the world's great artists,
attractions, and cultural institutions. Through the
years, they added the services necessary to foster the growth
of artists and the expansion of the business. When called
upon, they act as tour impresarios, concert promoters, and
booking agents.
They
developed T.V. and radio spots for many classical
artists and dance companies, some of which were so effective
and distinctive that Advertising Age devoted a major
feature to the company's efforts. Shortly thereafter, articles
appeared in The New York Times , The Daily News,
and other major newspapers. Both Gurtman and Murtha agree that
their direct-marketing campaign for the video, The Best
of Victor Borge, remains the most successful direct
television and print campaign of its kind and has contributed
to sales of more than three million tapes. According to Jim,
"it introduced Victor to three new generations that now flock
to his concert performances".
New to the list for next season is Grammy award-winning
artist Rita Coolidge. She will tour performing arts center and
symphonies as well as offer a special Christmas program.
Country star Don Williams has also joined our roster. In
recent years, G&M has moved more toward the middle ground, pop
side of the entertainment business as performing arts centers
and symphony orchestras have begun to look more to these types
of artists to fill their concert series.
Such
artists as Victor Borge, Judy Collins, Keely Smith,
Janis Ian, and Carol Lawrence among others call G&M home. We
also have routing availabilities for "Mr. Hawaii" Don Ho,
Shirley Jones, The Kingston Trio, the Nylons, and Charley
Pride.
Two PBS shows are currently running. One of them is
"Judy Collins Live at Wolf Trap" which captures the musical
magic and personality of this great artist. Starting in March
2001 - "The New Shanghai Circus" will begin airing. We have
had enormous success with this action packed show. It has
played well with repeat "series" engagements. The company,
which received rave reviews from the New York Times for its
Broadway run, is also a superb family attraction.
Swedish piano sensation Robert Wells has a PBS program
with full symphony orchestra. Murtha says "This is a
spectacular way to introduce him to America. Robert brings a
blend of Classical and rock music unlike anyone else
performing today". Also look for America's first lady of
piano, Ruth Laredo, on the Bravo Network this fall and a
spring tour for pianist Abbey Simon, including his annual
Carnegie Hall Concert on April 11, 2001. He has been hailed as
the last of the Great Romantic Pianists. On tap for next
season is the outstanding new string quartet - "The Elements".
Pulitzer prize winner David Del Tredici calls them "...
Exciting and innovative.. An important new ensemble". Also in
their first G&M season will be a North American Tour for "Quartango".
This superb ensemble from Canada will be a must for your
classical series.
For your family events, they will tour Barry Williams (Greg)
in the concert version of his NBC hit "Growing Up Brady".
The wonderful world of magic is represented by Greg Wilson in
his spectacular Evening Allakazam!, and the very popular
Dublin's Irish Cabaret with funny man Noel V. Ginnity.
Today, G&M has expanded to become a full - service
agency. Its New York branch offers public relations,
management, and booking in any combination that any artist, or
personal manager may need. In addition, G&M opened a
theatrical division. This year, they were responsible for
booking the national tour of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess
as well as Pump Boys and Dinettes,
Anything Goes and The Sunshine Boys with
Dick Van Patten, which will be out for G&M in the Fall and
Spring of the coming season. |
